“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
Pablo Picasso

INTENT
As artists we express our creativity and individuality. We gain inspiration from a wide range of artists and embrace opportunities to explore and develop skills to create work we can be proud of.

IMPLEMENTATION
- We use the National Curriculum to plan and deliver art.
- Skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children.
- Across the whole school curriculum, children experiment with a range of artistic tools and techniques and begin to refine their skills through different projects. They start to develop their own personal artistic styles.
- Each art lesson will begin with starter slides which cover what pupils have been previously taught in order to help embed the knowledge in their long term memory.
- Children build up a physical (sketch book) and digital (Seesaw) portfolio of their work as they progress through school.
- A range of artists and makers are studied across the school to promote cultural and historical understanding and celebrate diversity.
IMPACT
Our art curriculum offers high quality and well planned lessons, which are progressive in nature. It gives our children the confidence to express themselves creatively in a range of media, choosing the tools and techniques they use to achieve their intended artistic outcome. They have a clear understanding of the artistic process from inspiration to finished piece and they are able to discuss both their own work and that of other artists confidently, using artistic vocabulary. They value the importance of self-expression and recognising the benefits that artistic expression can have for their well being.
