“Technology is important because it creates the future. We’re able to be a part of the ‘next’ and create things that don’t exist.”

INTENT

Computing makes sure that we are digitally safe and are digitally literate – able to use, develop ideas, solve problems and express ourselves through technology.

How our curriculum is connected through our values:

As digital citizens we will safely and respectfully contribute to the school, local and global digital community.
As digital citizens we will safely explore the world wide web, programs and software used today.
As a digital school we will encourage curiosity and the use of digital devices to learn in a digital world.
As digital citizens we will use technology to create, edit and succeed in a digital world.

IMPLEMENTATION

  • We use NCCE ‘Teach Computing’ curriculum across school, guided by the National Curriculum, to plan and deliver computing.
  • We develop knowledge of computer networks and how technology can connect people.
  • We develop keyboard and mouse skills.
  • We complete programming and computer based projects to achieve a set goal.
  • Children are taught to understand respectful, responsible and safe use of websites, social media and online programs including games.
  • ‘Unplugged’ lessons to be recorded in topic books or on SeeSaw where appropriate.
  • Children are given access to a range of different digital devices, accessories and online resources to develop their computing knowledge and skills including: chromebooks, mice, iPads, Probots etc.

IMPACT

Pupils at Huntington Primary Academy receive a high quality and progressive computing curriculum which provides them with the knowledge and skills required to continue their computing journey in preparation for life in the digital workplace. Children think creatively to design, build and program algorithms to achieve a set goal working collaboratively. Children then think critically and to evaluate work and suggest ways to improve or debug their algorithms. Children at Huntington Primary Academy understand that games, websites and social media must be used safely and responsibly and know what to do if they encounter something that upsets or worries them or is inappropriate for their age.
