“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”
David Attenborough

INTENT
As geographers we are curious about places, populations, resources and human and physical features. We investigate, question and interpret sources and data.

IMPLEMENTATION
- We use the National Curriculum to plan and deliver geography.
- Skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children.
- Across the whole school curriculum, children study the key geographical concepts of locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography, geographical skills and fieldwork and investigation.
- The EYFS children learn about geography through cross curricular activities with a focus on ‘Understanding the world’ (EYFS framework).
- Each geography lesson will begin with starter slides which cover what pupils have been previously taught in order to help embed the knowledge in their long term memory.
- We will enrich our geography curriculum with school trips and fieldwork to give first-hand experiences, which enhance children’s understanding of the world beyond their locality.
- The local area is fully utilised to achieve desired outcomes, with opportunities for learning outside the classroom.
- Pupils are given access to a range of resources to develop their learning including; atlases, maps, digital technology, books and photographs.
IMPACT
Our geography curriculum offers high quality and well planned lessons, which are progressive in nature. Geographical questioning helps our pupils leave primary school with secure knowledge and understanding of the world and its people. Our children think critically and ask perceptive questions about the world in which they live and these empower them in being role models for the future; considering issues such as sustainability, climate change and development.
