IMPLEMENTATION
- Our PSHE curriculum starts with EYFS with managing self, self regulation, understanding the world and building relationships.
- Our EYFS curriculum promotes and supports children’s emotional security and development of their character, enabling children to take risks in a safe and secure environment, which is then built upon in KS1 and 2.
- Our PSHE curriculum is adapted from the PSHE Association using a thematic model.
- Teaching units are sequenced to ensure the content taught is progressive and builds upon prior knowledge.
- There are 3 main strands (themes) that run throughout the year: Relationships, Living in the Wider World and Health and Wellbeing
- Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is interwoven throughout the PSHE curriculum
- PSHE knowledge and skills are also addressed through targeted circle time and weekly assemblies, which address current issues facing the wider world and within our school community.
- We use a variety of PSHE association approved resources, such as: Yasmin and Tom, Premier League Stars, Environment Agency, Experian, thinkuknow, BBFC, Winston’s Wish, Google and parent zone, RSPCA, the Guardian Foundation, St John’s Ambulance, City of London Police, NSPCC etc.
- Class ambassadors are elected every Summer term and meet at least twice a half term. Their role includes: Pupil voice, charity days, helping with recording and discussions in PSHE lessons. This teaches responsibility and democracy.
- Our PSHE curriculum links to our British values, growth mindset and SMSC.
- Links to PSHE are made through our extra curricular activities SMSC calendar including: anti-bullying week, Children in Need, Children’s Mental Health week and Comic Relief etc.
IMPACT
At Huntington Primary Academy, learning about PSHE is promoted in a safe and inclusive environment where children express their curiosity and discuss relationships, health and wellbeing and the wider world in which they live. Children leave Huntington Primary Academy with the knowledge of different relationships, health and wellbeing and of the wider world. We provide them skills necessary to make safe, informed decisions and to be useful and accepting members of the communities in which they belong.
