In the first year of primary school, the children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Activities are planned using the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning: playing and exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically. The children are guided in their activities to develop key communication skills; physical strength and dexterity; personal, social and emotional skills, alongside knowledge and skills in English, maths, art and design and understanding the world.

We have set out below the Early Years Curriculum Goals with headings that we use with the children to encourage them to understand the key aims of our curriculum.
