Mr Newport has been involved with the school since November 2022, taking on the role of chair in September 2025. He has had two children pass through the school and was previously a Governor at another York school for seven years, three years as vice-chair.
He manages the operations for an ecommerce business selling music gear, having previously worked in finance and sales for Nestlé. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for York Museums. He enjoys walking in the hills and on the beach and playing golf, badly.
Mr Newport is the Link Governor for Leadership and Governance.
Mrs Charters has been involved in the school since 2017 as first a Trustee and as Governor joining the Pathfinder MAT and is currently Vice Chair. She has been involved in several committees focused on Curriculum and for the last few years have loved being the link Governor for SEND. With one child through the school and another in Year 5, Mrs Charters is a real parental advocate to support the building and strengthening of both parent voice and community.
Professionally Mrs Charters is an HR professional with over 20 years experience in a number of settings and currently as Civil Servant for Defra in York. Outside of work she loves to cook, bake, watch a range of sports either on TV or on the sideline and enjoy the beautiful Yorkshire countryside!
Mrs Charters is the Link Governor for SEND.
Mrs Holton joined the Academy in May 2022. She has 18 years teaching experience across
both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This also includes eight years as Deputy Headteacher at
Scarcroft Primary School. During her time at Scarcroft, she sat on the governing board as
staff representative and then as a co-opted member representing the senior leadership
team.
Mr Phil Good has worked at Huntington Primary Academy as the Site Manager since November 2015. He joined the Governors as a Staff Governor in September 2023. Mr Good previously worked for an Eco company as a cavity wall/ loft engineer and surveyor for 18 years. Mr Good runs one of the main darts leagues in York and enjoys playing in the team himself.
Mrs Dew was elected by the parent body in December 2022 but is now a co-opted governor with both her children having left Huntington.
She works as an IT Support Officer at the University of York and has a wealth of IT and web
skills including content writing and creating accessible documents.
Mrs Dew is the Link Governor for Safeguarding.
Mrs Bancroft has been involved with the school since December 2022.
Mrs Bancroft is an accountant and works as Finance Manager at STEM Learning Ltd based at
the University of York. Outside of work hobbies include singing in a local choir for which she
is Treasurer, long walks with her dogs and lots of travel.
Mrs Bancroft is the Link Governor for Attendance and Behaviour.
Mr Botham has been involved with the school since 2001, as a co opted Governor. He has
been involved in various sub committees over that time, including Numeracy and the wider
Curriculum, the Pay Committee, the Headteacher’s Performance Management Committee
and the move to join Pathfinder MAT. He has also held the roles of Vice Chair and Chair
which he has had to step back from for personal reasons. His principal role now is Health
and Safety at the school. Mr Botham is passionate about the school and its aim to help all
children reach their full potential and gain the confidence and resilience to excel at
secondary school and life as a whole.
Mr Botham says “I am a York Man, ‘born and bred’. I worked at Portakabin Ltd. for most of
my working career; in the company’s Manufacturing, Technical and Sales Divisions, before
setting up my own consultancy in 2013. I am now retired, giving me more time to spend
with my wife, family; in particular my grandsons, and friends. My hobbies include DIY,
Rock Choir, playing the guitar and Latin and Ballroom dancing. Huntington Primary Academy
is a great school and I am proud to be a part of it”
Mrs Humphrys became a Governor in autumn 2023.
Having retired in 2022 from her second career in primary education, as a teacher, SENCO and latterly a headteacher, she now works part-time as a psychotherapist. She believes the knowledge and skills gained within the education and health sector and the lens through which she now views education provision, allows her to support and challenge appropriately within the Governor role.
A move to Scarborough when she retired enables her to enjoy long walks on the beach and cliff top with her dog Pippa and to swim in the North Sea, usually three times a week, throughout the year.
Mrs Humphrys is the Link Governor for Curriculum and Teaching.
Mr Booker has been a governor since 2024. He is the headteacher of Yorks Secondary Special School.
Mr Booker’s son attended the school and thrived there.
Mr Booker is the Link Governor for sustainability.
Mrs Chambers was elected as parent governor in 2025. Her eldest son currently attends Huntington Primary Academy and she has a second younger son, who will attend the school when he reaches school age. She has 10 years experience in education as she is a primary school teacher at another school in York. She has experience teaching children from EYFS (including nursery) up to year 6, but is currently a Year 1 teacher and science lead in her school. She feels that being both a parent and a teacher (having an understanding of the education system), will give her a well rounded view to bring to the governing board.
Mrs Chamber’s hobbies include going to the theatre, reading, family walks with her pet dog and exploring the great outdoors with her family in their new converted campervan.
Mrs Chambers is the Link Governor for Early Years.
Dr West is a parent governor and was elected in 2025. She currently has two daughters at the school. She runs an environmental research centre at the University of York and her research is about bringing different voices into science. This means she’s interested in inclusion and environmental issues and brings this to the governing board. Outside of work she loves helping out at two of York’s community gardens, cycling and reading.
Dr West is the Link Governor for Personal Development and Wellbeing.
