As historians we will succeed in developing an enquiring mind and acquiring knowledge about great local and global events. We will debate the legacy and contribution they have to our community, here in Huntington. |
IMPLEMENTATION
- We use the National Curriculum to plan and deliver history.
- Skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children.
- Across the whole school curriculum, children study the key historical concepts of chronological understanding, knowledge and understanding of people, events and changes in the past and historical enquiry .
- The EYFS children learn about the past through cross curricular activities with a focus on ‘Understanding the world’ (EYFS framework).
- Each history lesson will begin with starter slides which cover what pupils have been previously taught in order to help embed the knowledge in their long term memory.
- We will enrich our history curriculum with carefully planned trips, educational visitors and workshops. Places of historic interest in the local community (including York) shall be incorporated into the curriculum where appropriate.
- Pupils are given access to a range of resources to develop their learning including; primary sources, digital technology, books and photographs.
IMPACT
Our history curriculum offers high quality and well planned lessons, which are progressive in nature. Historical questioning helps our pupils leave primary school with secure knowledge and understanding of the world and its people. They develop a deepening understanding of British History (including our local history) and key global events as well as the overarching skills of chronology, historical vocabulary and the ways in which the past can be communicated. Our children think critically and ask perceptive questions about the world in which they live and these empower them in being role models for the future; considering issues such as gender imbalances and racism.
